NUNM’s Community Health Centers aim to serve medically underserved populations across the greater Portland metro area. We do this by partnering with community based organizations who host our students and providers on a weekly basis so that they may provide naturopathic clinical services. At these sites we work to meet the unique health needs of the communities that access opportunities and services at the hosting location, or individuals who live in the nearby neighborhoods. While some locations are reserved specifically for shared patients, the majority of our locations are open to all community members.
At some of these health centers, our volunteers serve as Clinical Administrative Assistants who help ensure that a patient’s experience with NUNM is positive and healing. This means our volunteers schedule appointments, stock medical and office supplies, and support the clinical operations so that doctors and students can focus on their patients’ health. During the shift, volunteers are responsible for welcoming patients, checking them in with our electronic medical records system, giving patients the appropriate paperwork for completion, scheduling them for follow up appointments, and processing payments.
Additionally, the Community Health Centers team is seeking the support of individuals who want to help enroll Oregonians in OHP (Oregon Health Plan) – Medicaid coverage. Health insurance is often a vital element of someone being able to access healthcare and related services. We seek individuals who want to become OHP Application Assisters and work with our patients by discussing insurance and other health coverage options. The commitment for this role is typically two hours each week for nine months.
If you are someone who is looking to explore the natural medicine field, gain new clerical skills, give back to communities, or obtain college coursework credit (pending approval), then we invite you to fill out an application and join NUNM in making natural medicine accessible for all.
